Law school dropout turned filmmaker Morgan Leary (Te Āti Awa) makes films about society’s outsiders that live large.
She has a background as an award-winning actor across both screen and stage, as a graduate of The Actors’ Program drama school – informing her focus as a director on truthful performance against a carefully designed magical realist aesthetic.
Playing in several Auckland bands she is inspired as a filmmaker by music video culture and grew up glued to MTV’s Classic Hits.
Recent work includes films for Te Hiringi Hauro, RNZ, Loading Docs, Doc Edge Rangitahi Fund, and music videos for bands Cindy, Masks, Miss June. Currently she has a series in development and is writing a feature film.
Having completed the NZAPG Commercial Film Mentorship she’s super excited to start work with Clockwork.
